Dreadful

Everyone's had one. A bad haircut. Well now Grayden can call himself part of that club. =(

Normally Aunt Kristen cuts Grayden's hair. She's really the only person that I trust to cut his hair (and now rightfully so). He doesn't like it, but we can usually manage to get it done fairly quickly with a few bribes of suckers and maybe a cell phone or two to play with. We're getting ready to leave for vacation, and we're not going to see them until at least the end of July, so we had no choice but to take him to a "salon" and have his hair cut.

At first, it was ok. While we were waiting there were toys to play with, and lots of kid friendly decorations to explore. They played music and, as usual, Grayden couldn't resist taking a dance break every now and then.

 How you doin'?
This place is fun!
Dance break!!

BUT. THEN. It happened. It was our turn. I thought that with the distraction of the cartoons played at every station, his Mommy and Daddy there, and the comfort of his favorite animal he would be OK. I was wrong. Really, really wrong. The second he got in the chair he was upset. He wanted down and he did not like being there. The proverbial shit really hit the fan when the "stylist" buckled him in. The cape? OH HELL NO. It was a disaster. Grayden screamed the entire time. Not even bribes with suckers and animal crackers worked. Oh, he ate the animal crackers in between screams, but when she touched his head the screaming started all over and he nearly choked himself. It was awful and traumatizing and horrible.

Who are you???
OH MY GAHHHHHH!!!!
(This was the last picture I took in the salon. This was the beginning of the end and the whole experience went downhill from here.)

I will give the poor girl some credit. She was trying to cut the hair of a rabid wolverine that was pissed off about being strapped down in the chair in the first place. Grayden wasn't exactly an accommodating client. But by the time she was done hacking away at his hair, he looked.... different. Not like a 16 month old little boy. But a man that was about to enter the military. I hate his haircut. I hate it. It makes me want to cry. I know it will grow back, and I know he's still the same little boy that walked into the "salon". But he's somehow different too. =(

Who is this boy?

After the trauma of the haircut, we decided that a treat was in order. There was a pet store just a few doors down from the "salon" and they happened to have pet adoptions on Saturday. Grayden loves dogs (specifically big dogs, little dogs scare him) so we went to pet some doggies. There were about 4 rescued collies there, so we bought them all a special treat and walked over to Berripop for a treat of our own.

We recently discovered Berripop in Sugar Land. We happened to go there for the first time the day after they opened. It was a new store, with new and eager employees and few customers. It was yummy and inexpensive, so we've been back a few times. So many times in fact, that we're on a first name basis with the employees. Saturday was their Grand Opening and they were giving away free frozen yogurt! So Grayden got his very own cup this time. I think it helped soothe the pains of The Incident.

After all that, we headed home for a nap for Grayden and a drink for Mommy. Let's suffice it to say that from here forward, Aunt Kristen will be the only person allowed to cut Grayden's hair.
